Visitors who think that Philadelphia's art scene tops with Robert Indiana's Love sculpture and the Rocky statue will be pleased to know that the City of Brotherly Love is rife with great art destinations. American history could be foremost in most people's minds when thinking about Philadelphia, but the art and culture that flows thru the city is just as extraordinary as Independence Hall or the Liberty Bell. A colorful local artistic community radiates in Philadelphia and the gigantic number of Philadelphia art galleries available makes their work available to enjoy

First Friday in Philadelphia

Seeded all throughout the city - from the outdoor mosaics of Philly's Magic Gardens to the Picasso's hanging in the Museum of Art - there are galleries in Philadelphia that cater to tastes from eclectic to conventional. Lots of the galleries are situated in the Old Town district and are open for viewing in the well-liked "First Friday".

Slingluff Gallery

Situated in Fishtown and owned by Jonathon Slingluff and his partner Leigh, Slingluff offer monthly exhibitions that can range all the way from local street art to modern art from across the planet. This is one of the more popular Philadelphia art galleries due to the ever changing exhibits that appeal to introductory art aficionados as well as those with a practiced eye.

Locks Gallery

Housed in a stately 3-story building in Philadelphia's Washington Square, Locks Gallery enjoys a name as amongst the most popular art galleries in Philadelphia. Using its influence in global art circles, Locks Gallery has helped raise the profile of one or two local artists such as Jane Irish and Edna Andrade.

The Clay Studio

Part of the Old Town gallery district, The Clay Studio was opened to give new artists a place to work and display their creations. It has since then turned into the best place in Philadelphia to see and purchase unique art. Together with the gallery and store, The Clay Studio also offers classes for those wanting to create their own art.

Schmidt-Dean

For over 25 years Christopher Schmidt has been exhibiting his work and that of others from his Chestnut Street gallery. A former "Best of Philly" winner, Schmidt exhibits a large range of work includingphotography, painting and sculpture, mostly by local artists.

Biello Martin Studio

Michael Biello and Dan Martin, with architectural designer Carlo Fiammenghi have grouped together to bring one of the most eclectic art spaces in the country to Philly. This Old Town studio/gallery inspires the salon atmosphere of Europe, where works of all mediums are on display.
