Composing Good Poems About Christ

By Amanda Baird

Creating good poems about Christ may be interesting if one is well acquitted with the life and teachings of Jesus. Jesus used parables in his teachings most of the times. For instance, on matters of forgiveness, he used the parable of the lost son to clearly urge people to forgive one another.

Jesus majorly taught using parables, there for one can decide to also write on the parables he taught. For instant, one may look at the parable of the prodigal son when writing about forgiveness as one of the teachings of Jesus. In this parable, Jesus gave a story of a man who had two sons.

The man had a big land and several animals. He also had many workers who were helping him to take care of the wealth. He lived with his two sons harmoniously but one day, the younger son went to his father and demanded that the father to divide to him part of the wealth that belongs to him. The father went ahead and gave him his share. The son left home and went to another town after selling the wealth he was given. He squandered the whole money and was left with nothing. He then went back to his father and asked for forgiveness.

All this while, the elder son was leaving with his father and helping him. When the younger son came back, the farther welcomed him and even celebrated his coming back. Therefore, a poetic writer can use this parable to write a poem which shows an instance where somebody had wrong, then irrespective of the wrong doing; he is forgiven at the end. A poem of this kind encourages people to forgive one another and not to hold any grudge.

Jesus also taught on forgiveness using the parable of the two debtors. Jesus told this story while they were having dinner with his disciples, then a woman who was known as a prostitute joined them on the dinner even though he was not invited. He cleaned the feet of Jesus, anointed the same feet with an expensive oil the kissed it. The disciples felt bad that Jesus was associating with sinners.

A sinful woman who was well known as a prostitute came in to the house and went direct to Christ. She cleaned his feet and then perfumed them with an expensive perfume. She then kissed the feet of Jesus. This was so strange to the disciples. Jesus then proceeded to tell the parable of the two debtors.

When it was evident that the two debtors could not pay their debt, the lender for gave them of the debts. Jesus then asked the disciples, who would be more grateful. The disciples answered that the one who was owed more debt. Jesus then told them that that was the reason why the woman was more grateful than the disciples because he had committed a lot of sins that them but Jesus forgave her of her sins. This parable can also be used to compose a poem to demonstrate the teachings of Jesus.

The other gospel which would be significant is the sermon on the mountain. In this gospel, for instant, he taught that those who are meek are blessed because they will inherit the earth. This therefore encourages people to be meek. He also encouraged people to be righteous in all they are doing if they want to own kingdom of heaven. The same gospel also encourages people to always ensure that peace prevails. This sermon on the mountain is a poem on its own. Poets may therefore use it as well to create other poems about Christ. These teachings and parables therefore are of great importance and significant in poetry.
